Introducing André huysamen

Born and raised in Goodwood, Cape Town - André Huysamen knew from a very young age what he wanted to do in life. Entertain! With no professional vocal or dance training, André taught himself to sing by studying the vocal techniques of artists such as Mariah Carey, Queen, Whitney Houston and Mika. He had a natural talent for dancing as well. He loved imitating the choreography he saw on music videos of Janet Jackson, The Backstreet Boys, Jennifer Lopez and Britney Spears. It was the perfect Masterclass.

After matriculating from President High School, André started to climb the corporate ladder in order to gain work experience and to learn the importance of having a very strong work ethic in life. Over weekends and during his free time, he performed at clubs, weddings, corporate events and festivals. He also performed as a resident seasonal performer at Ratanga Junction for more than a decade. It was there where a CEO of Record Company in Pretoria spotted him and offered him a record deal.

2010 was a very big year for this Capetonian. Shortly after moving to Pretoria to make his mark in the local music industry, André was invited to sing for a former President at the Union Building. He was also invited to perform at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg for the MTN 8 Semi-Final between the Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates. The official attendance was 69,760 people.

In 2011 André released his debut album "Imperfect". The album was a mixture of English and Afrikaans Pop and R&B music. The first single "Sonder My" was nominated for a Eurovision Peace Song Award and other radio singles were also playlisted in Australia & New Zealand. The media quickly dubbed him as South Africa's very own Mika. His second album "Elektries" followed in 2013. The first single from the album "Asemloos" was playlisted on various radio stations across the country, and also received attention from other stations across the world. He embarked on a huge promotional tour and made his big KKNK debut in Oudtshoorn on the RSG and Huisgenoot stages. That year André received an award from the ATKV for his contribution to Afrikaans Arts & Culture and was nominated as Newcomer of the Year at the 2014 Bok Radio Music Awards. He was invited to perform in Spain, Dubai and across Europe at the time. André also appeared on several TV shows and soapies. After the release of his third studio album "The Magic of Christmas", André decided to take a hiatus from the music industry to focus on his studies and to venture into a new direction. During this time he also worked as radio presenter at Ratanga Radio in Cape Town.

Every setback he had to endure and every detour he had to take, still brought him to his current destination. You are never too young or too old to reinvent yourself and to live the life of your dreams. André Huysamen found his true calling and purpose in life. People and transforming lives. He always knew that one day his story might become someone else's survival guide - and he is definitely here to share it. Today André resides on the West Coast where he is a co-owner of a beauty salon and also works as a Transformational Coach & Motivational Speaker. This career path still gave him the platform to connect with his audiences in a different way. It also reignited his passion for music and he is currently working on a new album. With his own workshops, online seminars and motivational talks, André looks forward to inspiring, motivating and transforming lives wherever the south-easterly winds may blow him.

From the Mother City to the City of Gold, André Huysamen has definitely lived a colourful life so far. At the age of 37 he is only getting started. The best is truly yet to come.
